TO VOTE OBAMA!!!

Naw, I’m just kiddin. Seriously, though, I haven’t been following the presidential race very closely until the flurry of coverage on the Iowa caucuses ensued last month. Actually, I’ve considered registering as Independent; I feel as though I’m neither Democrat nor Republican anymore. I hold mostly liberal views, but have some very conservative views as well.

Anyhow, it’s not like I follow politics religiously, but all the hype around the presidential race has had me making conscious efforts to research for myself—both Democratic and Republican candidates. I was leaning toward Obama…and then there was last night:

Obama winning the caucus of one of the whitest states in the country has me believing that we really are ready for a change. That it actually could happen in 2008. This sounds corny and I know there is still a long way to go, but I’m really hopeful, and really excited for what’s to come. It’s not about the man’s skin color, or any other hype the media may give him, it’s just that he really is about change.

From Michael Moore:

“What an amazing night, not just for Barack Obama, but for America. I know that Senator Obama is so much more than simply the color of his skin, but all of us must acknowledge — and celebrate — the fact that one of the whitest states in the U.S. just voted for a black man to be our next president. Thank you, Iowa, for this historic moment. Thank you for at least letting us believe that we are better than what we often seem to be.”

When Barack wins Mississippi I know the country has made a change. Until then, the rest of the country will always be moving ahead, and the dirrrrty south will remain slow, steady and unchanged.
